Academic Experience
1. Lecturer – Business Management (May 2018 – Now)
Faculty of Commerce, The Eastern Institute of Technology.
Currently incharge of the course preparation and delivery of various management and marketing papers of applied management programmes offered by the institution. These papers include Strategic marketing, marketing management and organisation behaviour. I am also incharge of supervising students in the postgraduate levels in the marketing streams.
2. Research Supervisor ( May 2018- Ongoing)
Southern Institute of Technology, Invercargill.
Supervision of industrial projects and research projects in bachelors and masters programme in applied management.
3. Lecturer- Marketing (February 2015-December 2017)
Waikato Management School, Waikato University, New Zealand.
I have gained valuable experience in teaching classes of varying size and a broad range of subjects including postgraduate courses in the Marketing domain from this job. As the course convenor and principal lecturer of the following courses, my responsibilities include course administration, development and preparation of the teaching materials, assessments, review and evaluation of the papers. My teaching is aided by the use information and communication tools including video conferencing of lectures and online learning management systems such as Moodle, MyWeb,Adone connect, Wimba etc. A few examples of papers I have managed are given below:
- Marketing Research ( 300 level)
A third-year paper for the management students. Classes usually ranged from 250-300 students. The course provides students with an applied knowledge and practical experience in designing, executing and reporting a professional marketing research project. Lecture material covers both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Students are given hands-on experience in conducting market research on real-life issues ranging from retail to tourism management and other services as a term project.
- Introduction to Marketing & Principles of Marketing ( 100 level)
Foundation course for all Waikato Management students. The course provides students with an overview of marketing theory and practices. At the end of the course, students were given an opportunity to demonstrate their marketing skills to the public community in the form of the trade show.
- Customer Relationship Marketing ( 200 and 300 levels)
Course convenor for the paper from 2015 to 2017. I designed the course based on the premises and concepts of Service Dominant Logic. The course covered major theories, models and strategies to build a customer-centric organisation and marketing. The paper also discussed the role of Information and communication technologies in providing memorable customer experience and enhancing customer loyalty. Students were given an opportunity to closely monitor and examine the customer relationship management strategies of the major firms in New Zealand.
- International Marketing ( 300, 400 and 500 levels)
Paper convenor of this course for the past two years. The course discusses the role played by various macro environmental forces including political, legal, economic and socio-cultural changes in international marketing. Later on, advanced competitive strategies to manage the marketing mix of an organisation were provided. Overall, this course aimed to provide solutions to potential problems that firms are entering a global market may face. Case studies, seminars, debates, presentations and lectures were provided as part of this course.
Besides teaching the above courses, I have also managed various administration works including the management of marketing internship programs and directed study papers including MKTG 495 and MKTG 499.
4. Assistant Professor of Marketing: (October 2007- January 2015), Assumption University–Bangkok, Thailand.
Assumption University is the first and biggest International University in Thailand. The University has an outstanding reputation for their business management programs all over Thailand and the South East Asia. During my eight years of service in the above University, I conducted lectures on wide range of marketing and management topics to undergraduate students from nearly 65 countries. 5. Visiting Professor of Marketing: (June 2008- September 2015), Silapakorn University–Bangkok, Thailand.
Silpakorn University is one of the well-known public universities in Thailand founded in 1943 and holds a good reputation in South East Asia for their undergraduate and graduate courses in architecture and business management courses. I was In charge of preparing course curriculum and teaching materials, lecturing and evaluating the Principles of Marketing paper to undergraduate BBA students from June 2008 to September 2014.
Industrial Experience:
- Plant Engineer-Instrumentation and Control, The Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd (August 2005-September 2007)
Worked as a plant engineer for the Kerala Minerals and Metals Limited (KMML). KMML is one of the largest titanium dioxide pigment manufacturers in India and the biggest in public sector. Titanium pigments are heavily used for textiles, paints and plastic manufacturing. I had to play a significant role in the marketing and promotion of our products in the world market under the brand name KEMOX besides managing the instrumentation department of the firm. Incharge of the environment cell of the company and build good relationship with the pollution control board officials and local public and community leaders. Highly experienced in Business to Business marketing and project planning and cost control activities as part of this job.
- Assistant Manager- Davidson Rubber Industries ( 1999-2002)
Part time job, primarily on weekends. Assisted the manager in running daily operations of the firm. Incharge of marketing and public relations. Reperesented in the firm in marketing trade shows.
